Cricket fielding positions chart
This printable chart labels every standard cricket fielding position on one A4 poster, with the off-side and leg-side positions listed underneath.
Pin it in the changing room or the nets so younger players can learn the names. It shows a right-hand batter, with the off side on the left and the leg side on the right.
Where can you download the fielding positions chart?
- Download the A4 poster (PDF). This is best for printing.
- Download the poster as an image (PNG). This is best for sharing on a phone or in a group chat.
Which positions are on the chart?
| Group | Positions |
|---|---|
| Off side | Slip, second slip, gully, backward point, point, cover, extra cover, mid-off, third man, deep point, deep cover, long off |
| Leg side | Mid-on, midwicket, square leg, fine leg, long on, deep midwicket, deep square leg, deep fine leg |

How can you use the chart for coaching?
- Point to a position and ask a player to name it.
- Call a position and ask the player to stand there in a session.
- Ask players to find all the positions that are inside the circle and all that are outside.
- Compare the chart with a field you set in a match and talk about the gaps.
Does the chart cover close fielders like silly point and short leg?
The chart marks the 22 standard positions only. Closer and looser names such as silly point, short leg, leg slip and cow corner have their own pages, since they vary with the batter and the bowler.
Where can you make your own field plan?
Open the free planner to place your own players on the field, save a plan for each situation and share it as a link. The chart is for learning the names, and the planner is for setting the field.
Frequently asked questions
Is the fielding positions chart free to print?
Yes. Print as many copies as you need for your club, school or team.
Is the chart for a left-hand batter?
It shows a right-hand batter. For a left-hand batter, the off side and leg side swap, so every position moves to the other half of the ground.
