Powerplay field settings
The powerplay is the stretch at the start of a limited-overs innings when only a small number of fielders are allowed outside the fielding circle. In most T20 competitions that is two fielders for the first six overs, but the exact rule changes between competitions and age groups, so check your own playing conditions first.
With so few players allowed on the boundary, the aim is to take wickets with catchers and fielders inside the ring, while the two outside fielders cover the areas batters like to hit the most.
Positions in this field
- Wicket Keeper
- Bowler
- Slip
- Point
- Cover
- Mid Off
- Mid On
- Midwicket
- Square Leg
- Third Man
- Deep Fine Leg
How to use it
- Keep a slip in place while the ball is new. A new ball swings and seams, and edges carry.
- Use your two boundary fielders on the sides that matter most for the batter in front of you. Third man and fine leg are the usual choice against a batter who plays square of the wicket.
- Fill the gaps in the inner ring (cover, mid-off, mid-on and midwicket) so singles are hard to take.
- Match the field to the bowler's plan. If the bowler is attacking the stumps, straighter fielders save more runs.
- Change the field when a new batter comes in or after a boundary, not just at the end of the over.
Put your players on the field, save a plan for each situation, and send it to the team as a link. No sign-up.
